Remember that SPORT is a metaphor for LIFE. How you are on the field, the court, a rink, in a ring, etc…says something about who you are in real life. Are you a good teammate who works well with others to achieve a common goal? Or do you only care about yourself? Do you give your best effort and keep pushing even when it’s hard? He once said, “If you chase PERFECTION, then you may just catch EXCELLENCE.” No one can be perfect, but it shouldn’t stop us from trying our best! In the process we can achieve amazing things. People are often inspired by the extraordinary things that athletes can do. It can motivate them to greatness; and not just physically. Kobe Bryant also once said, “The most important thing is to try and inspire people so that they can be great in whatever they want to do.” The endurance it takes to be an athlete is not just physical, but also MENTAL. It takes YEARS of training! That kind of discipline can be applied to any goal or career in life! (whether its related to sports or not) There are also MANY careers revolving around sports. Whether its sport medicine, personal trainer, sports broadcaster, coaching, sportswriter, sports management, or the athletes themselves. Don’t forget that athletes also have a large audience that LISTENS. An athlete can use their freedom of speech to influence the way others think or to take a stand against injustice. The most memorable athletes aren’t revered and remembered just because of how they were on the field, but instead for what they stood for in life. Jackie Robinson once said, “A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives.” Remember that! Robinson was a veteran who served his country, and then was the first African American baseball player in the Major Leagues. He faced intense discrimination, racism and prejudice from fellow baseball players, fans, and people from all over the country who would even send death threats. He rose above it and was a model example of an exemplary human being with impeccable character. Imagine how he was able to inspire kids from minority backgrounds to show them they too could achieve anything they set their mind to. Imagine how he broke down racial stereotypes. He showed people that had only been taught and practiced hate that their stereotypes of minorities were wrong. He helped to slowly begin changing the hearts and minds of those who were prejudiced. Athletes also act as ambassadors for our country and its values when they represent us in international competitions like the Olympics. They can have a role in establishing better relationships with other countries and cultures and inspiring people all over the world! If you want to be successful in anything, including sports, you have to have a strong work ethic and the right values in place. Former President Theodore Roosevelt once said, “In life, as in a football game, the principle to follow is: Never flinch. Never foul. Hit the line hard.” There it is simply said. Be consistent and follow the path of what is right…but also work HARD! Give it everything you have…. on the field…and off. |

Amendment 15 was supposed to give ALL races voting rights. But...because of 10th amendment the state makes election laws...so they still had to fight. More laws and amendments were passed, like the 24th which outlaws the 16-15-12-12 tax.
